Maury Povich was Born …:

… on January 17, 1939, in Washington, D.C., son of famed Washington Post sportswriter Shirley Povich.

Maury’s First Job & The Early Years:

Maury started out as a news reporter for a local Washington, D.C., station, and eventually became the host of the station’s popular midday talk show. His popularity sent him to news stations in some of the U.S.’s biggest markets: Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Becoming a Talk Show Host:

Maury’s style caught the eye of super-billionaire broadcasting titan Rupert Murdoch, who hired Maury to anchor his infotainment program, A Current Affair. After his four-year tour of duty, he launched The Maury Povich Show. Today, it’s simply known as Maury or The Maury Show.

What Does the Future Hold?:

Maury plugs along with his TV show, still popular after all these years.

And Just for Fun:

  • Is married to journalist Connie Chung.

  • Once hosted the game show remake Twenty One.

  • Was a two-term president of the New York Chapter of the National Television Academy.
