Bio Brief: Greg Behrendt

By , About.com Guide

Greg Behrendt was born ...:

... in 1963 in San Francisco, California.

The Early Years:

A stand-up comedian, Behrendt quickly turned his keen eye on relationships and the mysteries of manhood into a gig as writer and consultant for Sex in the City.

Behrendt helped coin the phrase, "He's just not that into you," and turned that into a bestseller, titled, appropriately, He's Just Not That Into You, co-authored with Liz Tuccillo. Behrendt followed that up with It's Called a Break-Up Because It’s Broken, co-authored with his wife, Amiira Ruotula-Behrendt.

Becoming a talk show host:

That same keen eye on relationships and the mysteries of manhood spun into a stab a daytime television, with the debut of The Greg Behrendt Show.

A key moment in his career:

Deciding to become the only straight male writer for the award-winning television comedy. That and penning a bestselling book of advice.

What does the future hold?:

There's always the ABC mid-season replacement Greg Behrendt's Wake-Up Call (which, as of early 2008, has not debuted). The weekly show will focus on one couple's major issues and Behrendt's ability to give them the tools they need to fix their own.

This Just In:

Unfortunately for Greg, the show was cancelled at the end of the 2006-2007 season. The germ of the show -- Greg answering various questions about relationships, sex and life in general, continues on at his web site, Greg Behrendt.com through the video "Ask Greg" segments. And apparently the former talk show host is going to record an album with his band, The Monarchs.

And Just For Fun:

  • Authors a blog on his personal web site.
  • Is working on two TV shows at the same time.
  • Has cameoed on a number of films, including Run Ronnie, Run, and Dumb and Dumberer.
  • Once lived with comedian/actor David Cross (who played Tobias Funke on Arrested Development.
  • His show, The Greg Behrendt Show, was canceled in 2007.
