Russ’s First Job & The Early Years :
Russ graduated from the University of Missouri and began his career in broadcast journalism in Dallas. He’s also worked in St. Louis as a reporter and weekend anchor. He joined CBS News in 1992 as co-anchor of Up to the Minute and correspondent for Eye to Eye, both news magazine programs.
Becoming a Talk Show Host:
In December 2006, Russ joinedCBS’s The Early Show as its news anchor. He has been co-host of The Saturday Early Show since it debuted in 1998.
What Does the Future Hold?:
There’s little doubt that Russ will eventually become one of the regular co-hosts of The Early Show. It’s just a matter of time.

- Has won many awards, including a 2005 New York Association of Black Journalists Award for best documentary for a Sunday Morning report on Stax Records, a 2001 Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Award for the CBS Evening News with Russ Mitchell's coverage of the Elian Gonzales story, a 1997 Emmy Award for coverage of the crash of TWA’s flight 800, a 1995 National Association of Black Journalists Award, two Emmy Awards from the St. Louis chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and a 1989 Best Reporter honor from the Missouri UPI.
