Julie Chen was Born …:
… on January 6, 1970, and grew up in Queens, New York. Her father, once a prominent government official, is originally from China, and her mother, Burma.
Growing up with Julie:
She is the younger of several sisters and has always had the determination to succeed. Chen attended the University of Southern California, graduating in 1991 with a degree in broadcast journalism and English.
Julie’s First Job & The Early Years:
Upon graduation, Julie stayed put in her little college town – L.A. – working as a desk assistant for ABC News’ Los Angeles bureau. Following that stint, she worked as a producer for ABC NewsOne and as a reporter at Dayton, Ohio’s, WDTN-TV.
That brought her to New York in 1997, where she took up shop at WCBS-TV, before becoming a fill-in news anchor on the CBS Morning News and CBS This Morning.
Becoming a Talk Show Host:
In 2002, CBS’s The Early Show unveiled a new four-anchor format, and Julie was selected as a part of that quartet. She had been news anchor of the program prior to the format change.
What Does the Future Hold?:
Julie continues to host CBS’s reality series, Big Brother, and will no doubt continue to pursue broadcast opportunities that enhance her ability to connect with the audience.
