Star Jones Talk Show

About.com Rating 3

By , About.com Guide

The Bottom Line

Star Jones is in her element in this one-hour talk fest, which focuses on pop culture, entertainment and crime and justice (they’re all one in the same these days, huh?). Though she doesn’t have the polish of a singular host, the show fits her style, and Star Jones fans should have fun catching up with her personality.

Pros

  • As a former prosecutor, crime and justice is her best topic
  • Courts controversy, which makes for good watercooler talk
  • Is a well known commodity

Cons

  • Star is sometimes her own favorite subject
  • May have been a better co-host than singular host

Description

  • Airs daily at 3 p.m. on CourtTV.
  • Not afraid to ask tough questions
  • Guests are a mix of news makers and celebrities

Guide Review - Star Jones Talk Show

I’m going to be honest. I’m not a huge Star Jones fan. But her show is compelling in that it feels like The Oprah Winfrey Show of the mid-1980s – intriguing, middle-budgeted, prurient interest kinda stuff. I mean, who doesn’t want to hear what the ghost writer of O.J. Simpson’s If I Did It has to say?

It’s hard to say at this point if she’s trying to fit into the same niche that CNN Headline News’ Nancy Grace has filled. There’s certainly that element involved. But there’s also the throwback to The View – touching on pop culture and entertainment – that maybe doesn’t work when mixed with stories about the Jena 6.

But it’s still a work in progress. Thumbs up – if Star Jones, the show, finds its right voice.
