2008 Presidential Nominees on Talk Shows – Appearance Schedule

By Thomas Tennant, About.com

From Richard Nixon’s appearance on Laugh-In to Bill Clinton’s saxophone on The Arsenio Hall Show, politicians have been using talk shows and other entertainment television to announce their candidacy or reach out to potential viewers.

Already this season, 2008 presidential hopefuls from both parties have been making the rounds. Republican hopeful Fred Thompson, an actor and former senator, drew praise and criticism for his late entry, announced Sept. 5 on The Tonight Show. And Oprah Winfrey's endorsement of Barak Obama surely helped him grab the Democratic nomination. Obama has already appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, as well as The Daily Show and others. And John McCain is no stranger to the talk show circuit, visiting The Daily Show, The View and others.

As we head toward the general election, Obama and McCain are bound to make several stops on the talk show circuit. These stops are often revelatory –- either revealing a candidate’s new stance on a topic or showcasing their softer, warmer side.

In this day and age, they’re worth a view for any discerning voter.
