2009 TV Talk Show Season Premieres

Elizabeth Hasselbeck of 'The View'

ABC Entertainment

The Fall 2009 TV Premiere Season is upon us, and our favorite TV talk shows are planning some fun things this year. The View kicks off the season with one of their own on the sidelines. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is on maternity leave and a star-studded array of guest co-hosts plan to fill in for her. And Tyra Banks is giving her entire fifth season the theme of inner and outer beauty. But you can bet she’ll still be as controversial as she can be.

And then there’s the big premiere: The Jay Leno Show on Sept. 14. Leno’s move to 10 p.m. on NBC has everyone wondering how it will reshape the late night landscape. It’s a turning point for the industry and begs the question: which network will be the first to follow?

  • The Jay Leno Show
    Season Premiere: Sept. 14
What’s In Store: Not too much is known about Leno’s new show, save that it will be very similar in comedy tone and personality to his Tonight Show. Band leader Kevin Eubanks and announcer John Melendez will return in similar roles.

  • The View
    Season Premiere: Sept. 8
What’s In Store: The View premieres with a slew of guest co-hosts sitting in for the on maternity leave Elisabeth Hasselbeck. Guest hosts include Kate Goselin, Latoya Jackson and Victoria Beckham.

  • Live with Regis and Kelly
    Season Premiere: Sept. 7
What’s In Store: Live enters its 22nd Season this year – and Regis and Kelly celebrate 10 years together. Has it really been 10 years? It just doesn’t seem like that long.

  • The Ellen DeGeneres Show
    Season Premiere: Sept 8
What’s In Store: Ellen promises more celebrities, crazy games and non-stop fun. And she says there’s a huge surprise planned for the premiere. We don’t know what it is, so you’d better tune in to find out!

  • The Oprah Winfrey Show
    Season Premiere: Sept. 14
What’s In Store: Oprah Winfrey will open her 24th season with “the most anticipated music interview of the decade”: Whitney Houston. The two-day premiere will be followed by a special dedicated to Michael Jackson.

  • The Rachael Ray Show
    Season Premiere: Sept. 14
What’s In Store: Rachael kicks off her fourth season with a big block party. She’s joined by Jenny McCarthy, Kool & The Gang, Jillian Michaels and more.

  • The Tyra Banks Show
    Season Premiere: Sept. 8
What’s In Store: Season 5 is all about inner and outer beauty, and Tyra proves it by shedding her weaves and displaying her real hair. She’s also sporting a new interview with celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.

  • Dr. Phil
    Season Premiere: Sept. 14
What’s In Store: Not much is leaking about Dr. Phil’s season premiere – other than it will be live from New York City.

  • The Dr. Oz Show
    Season Premiere: Sept. 14
What’s In Store: After five years on Oprah as the show’s medical expert, Dr. Oz flies solo with a show that he promises will be all about YOU.

  • The Wanda Sykes Show
    Season Premiere: November 2009
What’s In Store: The show is described as a “high-energy one-hour show that will feature biting commentary on topical issues and heated panel discussions with recurring personalities.”

  • Lopez Tonight
    Season Premiere: November 2009
What’s In Store: Lopez’ show will be an hour-long program airing at 11 p.m. weeknights. It’s been described as a show with an outdoor street-party atmosphere. Lopez will welcome celebrity guests, live music and comedy acts. His plan is to get rid of a lot of late night conventions, however. No desk, no cue cards and no monologue.
