The 2009 Emmy Award nominees seemed an awful lot like the 2008 Emmy nominees. In fact, nominees for Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series were identical last year’s nominees. Even more amazing, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart defended its title against the Late Show with David Letterman, The Colbert Report, Real Time with Bill Maher and Saturday Night Live and took home the Emmy again.

Also of interest, the burgeoning field of Emmys for content presented online rather than on broadcast television received significant nods. Three talk show entries made it into this field, in three different categories:

  • The Late Night with Jimmy Fallon Digital Experience (Outstanding Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Nonfiction)
  • The Daily Show: The Daily Show Correspondents On Jon Stewart (Outstanding Special Class - Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Programs)
  • Jay Leno's Garage (Outstanding Special Class - Short-format Nonfiction Programs)

The 61st Annual Emmy Award ceremony took place Sept. 13 at the NOKIA Theatre L.A.

Below you’ll find a complete list of talk show connected Emmy categories, nominees and winners. Make sure to follow through to the expanded category listing for more information and a description of each nominee!
