By , About.com Guide

Robin Roberts was Born …:

… on November 3, 1960, and grew up in Pass Christian, Mississippi. Her father was one of the Tuskegee Airmen, famed African-American WWII pilots.

Growing up with Robin:

Always the athlete, Robin played high school basketball and tennis. She’d carry over her love for basketball to Southeastern Louisiana University, playing for the Lions and ending her career there as the third all-time leading scorer with 1,446 points and 1,034 rebounds.

She was also an academic, graduating as salutatorian of her high school and cum laude from SLU.

Robin’s First Job & The Early Years:

Upon graduation, Robin embarked on a sports broadcasting career, working for small stations in Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia. Her work at a local station in Atlanta caught the eye of producers at ESPN, also headquartered in Atlanta, and she went to work for the premier sports channel in 1990.

Becoming a Talk Show Host:

In 2002, Robin joined ABC News as a reporter. Her work took her to the news desk at Good Morning America, ABC’s morning news and talk program. Three years later, Robin was propelled into the co-anchor chair, where she continues, alongside Diana Sawyer.

What Does the Future Hold?:

Strictly speaking, Robin could easily bridge the difference between sports reporting and news anchoring. If you wanted to place a long shot bet, Robin may one day produce and anchor an ESPN Sportscenter-style program.
