Hannah Storm was Born …:
… on June 13, 1962, in Atlanta, the daughter of Mike Storen, a former commissioner of the now defunct American Basketball Association and president of the National Basketball Association’s Atlanta Hawks.
Growing up with Hannah:
Her high school alma mater: Westminster Schools in Atlanta. Her college alma mater: Notre Dame, where she graduated in 1983 with a degree in political science and communications.
Robin’s First Job & The Early Years:
She started as a broadcaster in South Bend, Indiana, while still a student at Notre Dame. But after graduation, Hannah took a job as disc jockey and sports reporter in Texas – and that’s where her surname, Storen, became her stage name, Storm.
Her sports reporting eventually caught the eye of a Atlanta-based CNN, who hired Hannah as co-anchor of its CNN Sports Tonight in 1989. Fellow sportscaster Dan Hicks would later become Mr. Hannah Storm.
Hannah left CNN for NBC, covering the wide world of sports – and making headlines when she unintentionally set off easily set-offable former baseball player Albert Belle. She was waiting in the Cleveland Indians locker room for All-Star Kenny Lofton prior to a 1995 World Series game when the short-tempered Belle stormed in and hurled profanities in her direction. The incident set off a wave of discontent and debate.
Becoming a Talk Show Host:
In 2002, CBS’s The Early Show unveiled a new four-anchor format, and Hannah was selected as a part of that quartet.
What Does the Future Hold?:
Hannah is a favorite on the program, but could always return to sports reporting, for which she has both an affinity and talent that few have.
And Just for Fun:
- Married to sportscaster Dan Hicks.
- Revealed on camera that she had a congenital defect known as a port-wine stain or vascular birthmark under her left eye, which, without make-up, gave the appearance of a black eye. She later had it removed via laser surgery.
