Late Shift 2: Conan Not Happy?

By , About.com GuideJanuary 11, 2010

Follow me on:

Rumors are filtering in that Conan O'Brien, host of The Tonight Show on NBC, is not at all happy with NBC's decision to return Jay Leno to 11:35 p.m..

FOXNews is saying that O'Brien is "ready to fly the coop.". The source even quotes an insider saying that O'Brien "would be happier somewhere else."

It's easier said that done, according to the Associated Press. Complicated contractual issues would have to be worked out before O'Brien could airlift out of NBC to another network.

And FOX is really the only place O'Brien could land, as the other networks - ABC and CBS - have firmly rooted late night programs with Late Show with David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The hullabaloo is reminiscent of the late night mechanizations of the early 1990s, when Johnny Carson retired from The Tonight Show and the desk was bequeathed to Leno rather than long-time Late Night host David Letterman. Letterman left the network for CBS over the decision.

The question now, is, will Conan O'Brien do the same?
