Word has come that Andy Richter, Conan O'Brien’s sidekick from the 1993 debut of Late Night with Conan O'Brien through 2000, will join The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien as announcer.
This is a wonderful turn of events – and a rumor that has circulated for some time among fans. Richter is the perfect foil for O’Brien, and the reunion should be a ratings boost for the The Tonight Show’s new iteration.
Richter will most likely play the same role as Ed McMahon, joining Conan post monologue and acting in comedy sketches.
Richter left Late Night in 2000 to pursue an acting career. Some of his more notable roles include the short-lived sit-coms Andy Barker, P.I. and Quintuplets. He’s also appeared as a guest star on a number of series, including 30 Rock, Bones and Monk. And he had a supporting role in the cult movie Cabin Boy, which includes an extremely rare cameo by David Letterman.
