Ellen to Marry Despite McCain’s Beliefs

By now you’ve probably heard that Ellen DeGeneres, host of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, is planning to marry her longtime partner actress Portia de Rossi (Arrested Development) following the California Supreme Court’s recent decision that – hey, that’s okay, right?

Well, likely presidential candidate Sen. John McCain visited Ellen on her show Thursday and wished Ellen “every happiness” – but added that “the unique status of marriage between a man and woman” is what he believes is the only appropriate form of the convention. He did add that he was okay with same-sex couple having the opportunity to join together in some legal fashion for insurance and other purposes.

Ellen tried to get him to see the truth of that matter, saying, "We are all the same people, all of us. You're no different than I am. Our love is the same. When someone says, 'You can have a contract, and you'll still have insurance, and you'll get all that,' it sounds to me like saying, 'Well, you can sit there, you just can't sit there.'”
