Colbert Announces ’08 Candidacy on Colbert

Thursday October 18, 2007

Determining that Jon Stewart’s The Daily Show was not “prestigious” enough a stage, Stephen Colbert waited about 15 minutes – or until he was on his own show, The Colbert Report to announce his 2008 bid for President of the United States.

“I have heard the call!” he told his Colbert Nation, as balloons and streamers filled his New York set and his audience went wild. All last week, Colbert played shy with this possible run – if bringing up the topic on your own can be considered shy – on talk shows far and wide. He was hawking his new book, I Am America (And So Can You!).

Apparently his run will be restricted to South Carolina. It’s a key primary and Colbert’s home state. Should he gain the presidential nomination (he’s running as both a Democrat and Republican, to cover all the bases), his running mate will be either presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, Russian President Vladimir Putin, or Stephen Colbert.

Now that Colbert is a presidential candidate, we’ll include his appearances in our 2008 Campaign Guest Schedule.
