New Feud for Rosie: Bill O’Reilly

Sunday April 1, 2007

Here we go again.

This time, Rosie isn’t the one to start the feud – and there’s little chance she won't have something to say about this one – but regardless, she has a new enemy across the TV talk show landscape.

Over at Fox News, Bill O’Reilly, host of The O’Reilly Factor, has lobbed a few shots at The View co-host. O’Reilly’s lament: ABC should fire O’Donnell for comments made on the show and her personal blog regarding the capture of 15 British soldiers by Iran.

The comments? O’Donnell thinks the British actually crossed into Iranian waters on purpose in an attempt to bolster support for possible action against Iran from the U.S.

On her web site, she wrote about "false flag operations,” defined by Wikipedia as “covert operations conducted by governments, corporations, or other organizations, which are designed to appear as if they are being carried out by other entities. The name is derived from the military concept of flying false colors; that is, flying the flag of a country other than one's own.” (Editor’s note, seems that Rosie uses Wiki, as her definition and this one are identical.)

She followed that up with a chat on The View about similar issues – and said she felt a pang of sympathy for the people of Iran, who she believes have been painted as nothing less than the enemy.

The comments sparked a furious fire under O’Reilly’s hot seat, and he lashed out, calling for ABC to pull the plug on the opinionated host. He suggested ABC had already set a precedent by doing much the same to Politically Incorrect host Bill Maher when he made comments about the September 11 terrorists.

O’Reilly even suggested that things were deteriorating at The View. Though, as far as ratings numbers suggest, that isn’t the case at all. O’Reilly also sympathized with Elisabeth Hasselbeck, the lone conservative voice on the show. But he obviously doesn’t watch the show – as Elisabeth, it seems, has always had the weakest personality.

Friday’s episode of The View was previously recorded, so it won’t be until Monday (April 2) that Rosie will have a chance to respond.

That should be good.

And constitutes what to watch on Monday. Regular updates to talk show schedules will be posted Monday evening.

Update: Rosie has responded on her blog. She alleges that O'Reilly re-edited her statements on The View to fit his spin. And she likens him to the character Parsons, from George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four, who was charged with doing just that.

This is something to chat about. Add your comment below and tell me what you think.

You are going to have to wait for Rosie’s reply on The View. I think they are on vacation this week.

(2) Linda says:

Rosie happens to moderate a show called THE VIEW. It is about their own personal VIEWS. Isn’t this America? Aren’t we allowed to ask questions, make comments – something called FREEDOM OF SPEECH? I don’t agree with everything Rosie says, but I do wholeheartedly agree with her right to give her opinion!

(3) Ginger says:

Yes, Linda. this is America where Freedom of Speech reigns. However, Rosie, like Sean Penn, simply spews forth her hatred, with falsehoods, to boot. Especially her theory last week that we caused Tower 7 to implode. She’s not an engineer, and had she read the experts’ analyses of why they collapsed inwardly she would know because of faulty materials and, yes, steel can melt from tons of fuel that came long with the aircraft. She’s a horror. I’m beginning to like Donald Trump!

I thought ABC and Barbara Walters had more class than to associate with the likes of Rosie!!! I guess ratings are more important then morals.

(5) Robert Minacapelli says:

Hi Rosie;I was watching the news tonight.I’m so glad that finally someone like you who can have there voice heard nationaly, finally spoke out.I myself am a firm believer that the government blew up my home town.Just for there on selvish reasons.I’ve been to googles and saw many documentaries on 9-11.There is enough proof we blew up the twin towers.I saw a 17 minute doc. that showed it was in fact a milltary plan that hit the twintowers. Are we people in america to lame to stand up to scum faced bush.I’m a catholic and I believe bush will burn in hell for ever.”Loosechange9-11 2nd edition “doc.on googles.Another one “mystery of 9-11″ .There is enough proof there to send bush to hang like sadam. Don’t let them bully you around,I’m on your side 100%.Go get them Rosie!!!You can do it!!!!Thanks for listening to me

(6) Eileen says:

Thomas Tennant left out some vital information. On “The View” Rosie has also expressed belief that the 9/11 attacks were a US government conspiracy. Her website has links to the 9/11 Scholars and WTC 7, groups that purport these ridiculous theories, though the rest of the academic community has denounced them. Rosie has also claimed that we do not need to be afraid of terrorists and that they have been demonized. Mr. Tennant, if you’re going to write a news column, make sure you tell the whole story.

You know, if “The View” was really about different views, why don’t they get an equally rabid conservative like Ann Coulter on to counterbalance Rosie?

(7) Donna says:

Oh, boy, another meltdown. Please, please, ABC/Barbara Walters, get rid of her. She is (Rosie) a big, fat bully and getting fatter by the week. Doesn’t anyone or ABC executives notice that the ladies on the panel, including Joy Behar, who has a strong personality, sits in awe, (mostly with their faces dropped at her spewing and I do mean spewing garbage out of her mouth/ The guest hosts look even more scared of her. Yeah, I know it’s the View, but she inflicting her View with dictatorial pressure on the whole audience and fellow panelists and AMERICA. Say goodbye to a failed cohost that doesn’t simply doesn’t fit in.

(9) Roxanne says:

I have to say enough is enough. She loves to argue, it’s evident, but don’t we have enough negativity in the world? I think Rosie should use her position to spread good news, good words, and good thoughts. I hear it’s contagious!!!

(10) A.podsiad says:

I am tired of Rosey using the veiw to spout her crazy unfounded statements to the american public. This woman is parinoid. I think she believes every one is after her because she is gay. Who cares! But when she uses abc to air every dumb thought that comes to her mind and pass it off as fact is really sad.

(11) S. Fusani says:

I totally agree with Donna. Ms. Walters should get rid of Rosie. She is going to bring the down fall of the View.

(12) Serena Ellison WV says:

I think Rosie Needs Jesus in her life. I have never seen such a person filled with Hate and Negativity as this Rosie O’Donnell. She must be in awful pain to have such an outlash of nasty behavior and low Moralities. She seems to fight for anything that is not good and stand against anything most would die for (like your country) I wish America would PRAY for this troubled Soul. And in the meantime I urge you all to quit watching the View, as they Clearly promote such actions.
Thank You

(13) Bill Gambrell says:

I agree with Rosie and all the experts who know that building no.7 was not hit by anything! IT was obviously a planned demolition. There is expert after expert, physicists, engineers that have come forward and all agree this was a planned demolition-it is obvious from the video. Rosie has guts and brains amid a sea of brainwashed wimps!!Thinks ABC for letting freedom of speech come through. Freedom of speech is more important than Brittany Spears hair or Anna Nichole Smith!Remember people-Building no. 7 was not hit by anything and modern steel buildings are very difficult to bring down!Especially in their own footprints!!Most people do not even know about the “3rd” building that came down on 9-11 -because the mainstream media does not want to discuss it!!And of the other 2 buildings-jet fuel does not melt steel or you could not have a jet engine without it melting-that simply defies the laws of physics! God Bless Rosie-the truth shall set you free!

(14) Norma McFarland says:

I think Rosie’s remarks are detrimental to a country who really needs patriotism and its’ people to stand beside/behind it.
